HD 47 Candidate Paul Workman (R)

House District 47 candidates Paul Workman says he has been diagnosed with prostate cancer.  In an e-mail from his campaign the 58-year-old Republican said the cancer was discovered during a recent routine  physical, and that he's been given an optimistic prognosis because the cancer was detected early.  He also says he's not dropping out of his race against Democratic incumbent Valinda Bolton.

“After a great deal of prayer, I decided to make this known because I am seeking a public office.  My promise is this:  I’ll keep every commitment, shake every hand, make every call and try to convey my message to as many voters as possible. I won’t lose a moment, I won’t lose a step and I’ll be ready to serve the people of this district in January and continue to fulfill my duties to my companies."

Workman says he'll have the surgery in November to remove the malignant cells.  The doctors have told him they think they will be able to completely remove the cancer and that no further treatment will be needed.  He says recovery time will take about 2 weeks.  And if elected, he'll be ready to go when the Legislature starts in January 2011.
