The job of rebuilding the Texas Longhorns' football coaching staff may be getting underway.
Chip Brown of orangebloods.com is reporting that former Florida offensive line coach Steve Addazzio has been hired as the Longhorns’ new offensive line coach. Addazzio would take over for Mac McWhorter, who retired on December 6th.
There is no official statement from the University confirming the hire. In fact, according to the Dallas Morning News, Texas football spokesman John Bianco reiterated on Tuesday that no jobs had been offered.
Adazzio would bring 26 years of coaching experience to the 40 Acres. Before coaching the offensive line at Florida, he spent time at Notre Dame, Syracuse and Indiana.
This would be the first of four high profile coaching vacancies to be filled for the Longhorns. The jobs of Offensive and Defensive Coordinator, as well as defensive line coach have yet to be filled. The football team finished 5-7 on the year (much to the dismay of their rabid fan base) and failed to reach a bowl game for the first time since 1997.
