The Texas Longhorns football team returns from a week off to open Big-12 conference play against Iowa State tomorrow night. Since Garret Gilbert is out for the season following shoulder surgery, the Longhorns don’t have a third string quarterback. A depth chart released on Monday lists both Case McCoy and David Ash as possible starting quarterbacks.
Head Coach Mack Brown said on Monday, “We’re also working on our third quarterback situation. You’ve got J.P. Floyd who’s a young man that’s walked on, and a five year guy that’s been around a long time. And we’re also looking at some packages with some other guys.”
Brown also said that the week off, after a win at UCLA the week before, helped sharpen the team's focus heading into conference play. Kickoff for tomorrow night's game in Ames, Iowa is 6:00.
