From Texas Standard:

The Alamo is in the midst of a massive redevelopment. There are big plans for the old San Antonio mission, including a new museum and visitor's center, an expanded footprint and restoration of some original structures.

The idea is to create a world-class experience that tells the whole history of the site, with a price tag of $450 million. But all those plans depend on a vote later this month by the Texas Historical Commission.

The remains of three bodies have been unearthed at the Alamo in San Antonio.  The remains were discovered during an archaeological dig as the Alamo undergoes a multi-million dollar redevelopment.

Seventh grade Texas social studies teachers will likely still be required to describe Alamo defenders in terms of their “heroism” and refer to William B. Travis’ letter “To the People of Texas and All Americans in the World,” contrary to an initial recommendation of a board-appointed work group.

An advisory committee is expected to recommend today that the Texas State Board of Education remove the word "heroic" from social studies curriculum when referring to defenders of the Alamo.

The other day, scrolling through Twitter, we came across a picture of two cannons from the Alamo laid out in the bed of a pickup truck, parked outside of a Buc-ee’s. We wondered why these cannons were on a road trip. Turns out it’s part of a restoration project being conducted by the Alamo and Texas A&M University’s Conservation Laboratory.

From the Texas Tribune: Consider the Alamo. Arguably the most notable historic site in the state, the modest Spanish mission's stone facade is nestled deep in the heart of San Antonio, beckoning history buffs and proud Texans alike.

And across the street tourists can see the world's largest Hawaiian shirt, or take photos next to a likeness of the man who holds the world record for balancing the most beer kegs on his head (11).
