Hispanic Caucus Elects New Chair

San Antonio Democrat Charlie Gonzalez has been elected chair of the Congressional Hispanic Caucus.  My SA news reports the Caucus unanimously picked Gonzalez.  The six-term lawmaker says he plans to reach out to five newly elected Hispanic Republicans and ask them to join the caucus.  Gonzalez starts his new leadership role when the 112th Congress convenes in January.

Houston-area Soldier Dies in Afghanistan

The Department of Defense has announced the death of a soldier from Conroe, Texas.  Private First Class Kyle M. Holder died Wednesday at Kandahar Airfield, Afghanistan.  He was 18 years old.  The Army says Private Holder died in a non-combat related incident that is still under investigation. 

Lawyers Wrapping Up DeLay Trial

Closing arguments are expected Monday in Tom DeLay's money laundering trial.  The former House majority leader's defense team rested its case yesterday.  The defense only called five witnesses compared to prosecutors' more than 30 witnesses.  DeLay denies charges that he helped illegally funnel corporate money to Texas candidates in 2002.

GameStop Has Record-Setting Quarter

Grapevine-based GameStop, the world’s largest video game retailer, reports a record-setting 3rdquarter. KERA’s Bill Zeeble reports the corporate profit approached $55 million.  GameStop’s profit not only rose nearly 5 percent in the 3rdquarter, but sales rose 3.5 percent to $1.9 billion, also a company record.

Game Stop has expanded its international reach. It operates stores in Canada, Europe, Australia and New Zealand, and has opened a total of 156 new stores worldwide. Some top selling games included Halo: Reach and Madden NFL 2011.
