Austin is the 26th most dynamic city in the post-recession world, according to a new report by the Brookings Metropolitan Policy Program.

The Global MetroMonitor report looks at cities' economic output and employment and ranks them based on how much they "punch above their weight."

Austin was the only American city in the top 30. Istanbul topped the list.

The Atlantic analyzed the report and said we shouldn't be surprised to see Austin beat out other US cities.

Austin has benefited from a shallow recession and quick recovery throughout the Lone Star State, in addition to steady state money supporting government and education jobs in the state capital. A robust high-tech sector has also helped the city withstand the vicissitudes of the housing market and energy prices.

Here's a .pdf of Austin's profile.

He covers the big projects that are reshaping how we get around Austin, like the I-35 overhaul, the airport's rapid growth and the multibillion-dollar transit expansion Project Connect. He also focuses on the daily changes that affect how we walk, bike and drive around the city. Got a tip? Email him at nbernier@kut.org. Follow him on X @KUTnathan.
