It used to be the 14th green of the Morris Williams Golf Course. Now it’s home to an electrical substation pumping energy to the Mueller Development.

Austin Energy announced today that the Mueller Substation has been energized. The city has about 60 of these substations throughout the city. It built the Mueller Substation to ease the load on several neighboring substations.

Piatra Inc. is still building a $200,000 security fence around the substation.  At least one local activist opposed the fence at an Austin City Council meeting, comparing it to the Berlin Wall and the Great Wall of China.

One the wall is built, the substation will be surrounded with irrigated trees. Austin Energy has all the details on the public input process, planning, and even schematic designs in this large pdf file.
