H-E-B Recalls Meals

Central Texas-based grocery store H-E-B has announced a “voluntary and precautionary recall” for its Asian Ready-to-Eat meals. According to the grocer:

The recall involves 19 Ready-to-Eat entrées and meals sold in 40 stores in Texas including one store in Houston. The product was available at the Grab 'N Go section in H-E-B Delis. The product(s) come in a 4 ounce, 8 ounce, 12 ounce, 24 ounce black plastic containers with a clear lid, single serve sizes and to-go containers … Any product sold prior to 5/3/12 is affected and should be returned to any H-E-B store for a full refund.

You can find a list of the 19 recalled items here.

H-E-B issued the recall due to the possibility of undercooked chicken, which has the potential to carry salmonella, which can cause serious and potentially fatal infections in the young and old, and those with weakened immune systems. No illnesses have been reported in connection with the recall.

Customers can direct their questions to H-E-B at 1-800-432-3113.

Capital Metro Finds Driver at Fault

Capital Metro says a preliminary investigation by both the transit company and the Austin Police Department shows that Cap Metro was not at fault in Monday’s MetroRail crash. Capital Metro says:

Both APD and Capital Metro conclude that there was no conduct by Capital Metro, Herzog or the engineer that was a contributing factor to this accident. APD has preliminarily determined that the driver’s failure to yield to the train was the sole contributing factor in the accident.

The 32-year-old driver, Jeremy Barta, was hit and killed by the train while his car was on the tracks at a private rail crossing. Two children in the car were injured.

Capital Metro is still trying to recover video recordings from the train. The cameras on the train stopped working about an hour before Monday’s crash.

DPS To Enforce New Driver's License Requirements

The Texas Department of Public Safety is announcing new residency requirements for Texas driver's licenses and identification cards.

Under the new system, first-time applicants are asked to meet all standard requirements as before – and present two additional documents establishing residency in Texas.

The additional proof must contain the applicant’s name and address. To be considered for applying, you must also have resided in Texas for a minimum of 30 days. That 30-day prerequisite can be waived if you’re able to submit a valid, out-of-state license.

The new requirements become effective May 7.
