AM Update: Early Voting Ending, A&M and Qatar, Festival Fun in Kerrville

Last Day of Early Voting

Today is the last day of early voting for the Texas Primaries. So far 27,539 Travis county voters, 4.6 percent of the eligible voting population have cast their ballots. Travis County Clerk Dana DeBeauvoir anticipates a busy day at the polls.

“We won’t be surprised to see two to three times the number of votes cast on the final day of Early Voting compared to the first days of the period," says DeBeauvoir.

Voters are reminded that most polls will close by 6 p.m. today. Election day is May 29.

Texas A&M Qatar Celebrates Ten Years

The Texas A&M campus in Qatar just wrapped up its 10th academic year and graduated 87 seniors. According to The Texas Tribune, TAMU Qatar is part of “Education City” a project of the Qatar Foundation which includes campuses of Georgetown, Carnegie Mellon, Northwestern, Virginia Commonwealth and Weill Cornell Medical College.

The partnership has proved a great resource for A&M research funding as Qatar has committed 2.8 percent of its GDP, roughly $1.5 billion, according to The Tribune. The A&M Qatar campus was part of a 10 year deal that is drawing to a close but A&M officials have already begun planning for another decade of programs.

Kerrville Folk Festival Underway

The Kerrville Folk Festival is in its 40th year. The festival runs through June 10 and features more than 70 artists as well as arts and craft vendors and music workshops.

The festival is held at the Quiet Valley Ranch just nine miles south of Kerrville. Festival goers are allowed to camp on the ranch. Some of this years performers include: Kinky Freidman, Carolyn Wonderland, Ruthie Foster, Peter Yarrow, Ellis Paul, and Matt the Electrician.
