The City of Austin is known for its festivals. Last year, the city received 136 applications for street events.
The city says as the number of events continues to grow, the permitting process is getting more challenging. City officials want to hear from people about ways to streamline the process.
Right now, the same permitting procedure exists for small parties as it does for large festivals. With Austin rapidly expanding, the city felt a special events team was needed to foster communication between the many city departments that facilitate special events and event organizers, as well as expediting the permitting process.
The Austin Transportation Department has already received many responses from an online survey.
The city hopes the feedback will help the Austin Center for Events advance the scalability for special events, providing an efficient service for organizing special events.
The public meeting is tonight, Monday, April 8, at One Texas Center, 505 Barton Springs Road, 3rd Floor. The meeting starts at 6:45 p.m.
