SpaceX Looks to Launch Texas Launch Site

SpaceX

The head of SpaceX, Elon Musk, says his commercial spacecraft company has had success in Texas with its rocket-testing facility in MacGregor and he likes the idea of building a Spaceport outside Brownsville.

Musk was in Austin Friday to talk with the Texas House Appropriations Committee.

“We’re talking about something that’s really the big leagues, here. This would be kind of a commercial version of Cape Canaveral,” Musk said.

SpaceX has had success with carrying cargo to the International Space Station and is working to do the same with astronauts, who currently are catching rides on Russian spacecraft.

Musk says the company is also looking at Georgia, Florida and Puerto Rico for its spaceport, but says, right now, Texas is in the lead.
