SafePlace and Austin Children's Shelter form LIFT Alliance
Edit | Remove

Family violence affects more than 18,000 Austin women and children each year. Now two local non-profit groups are joining forces to address the problem.

SafePlace and Austin Children’s Shelter are coming together to form LIFT Alliance. The alliance will allow kids at the Austin Children’s Shelter to attend a school operated by SafePlace. In return, clients at SafePlace can take part in the teen parenting program at the children’s shelter.

Julia Spann is the Executive Director for Safe Place. She says the organizations realize that their clients are all dealing with the same problem.

“We  both know that issues of violence, child abuse, sexual abuse, and domestic violence really don’t operate within silos," she says. "Many people who experience one of these issues experience multiple issues of violence.”

The new alliance will not affect their existing operations.

"We think other groups could look at how you keep your individual agencies fully intact and at the same time, be able to find both shared cost saving and bigger and better ways to do things together,” Spann adds.
