Dr. Bobby Jones

On this edition of In Black America, producer/host John L. Hanson Jr. speaks with Gospel Recording artist, radio and TV host, Dr. Bobby Jones.

No one has spent more years on cable TV than BET’s Dr. Bobby Jones who has hosted “Bobby Jones Gospel” for thirty-four years. During those years, his show has spotlighted artists as diverse as country stars Loretta Lynn and Barbara Mandrell to R&B icons such as Patti LaBelle and The Whispers. In between, Jones has also hosted the biggest names in gospel music from Kirk Franklin and Mary Mary to Yolanda Adams and Tamela Mann.

On radio, he is the host of Bobby Jones Gospel Countdown, a two-hour weekend Gospel countdown show heard on American Urban Radio Networks, in addition to the Bobby Jones Radio Show, which is heard on Sheridan Gospel Network. Ambassador Jones also oversees the Nashville Super Choir. Recently, Jones has released his first CD in seven years, entitled “ Rejoice With Me.”

For the last thirty-four years, Jones, Grammy Award Winner & America’s Gospel Music Leader, has spent his Sunday mornings rejoicing with millions of gospel lovers around the globe who tune in to BET’s “Bobby Jones Gospel,” the longest running program in cable TV history. Jones has dominated Sunday programming as the host and executive producer of Bobby Jones Gospel, since 1980. In addition to Bobby Jones Gospel, he is also the producer of Video Gospel, which debuted on BET in 1989, the first national television outlet for gospel videos.

John L. Hanson is the producer and host of the nationally syndicated radio series In Black America. It’s heard on home station KUT at 10 p.m. Tuesdays and 6:30 a.m. Sundays — and weekly on close to 20 stations across the country.
