Weekend two of the Austin City Limits Music Festival starts Friday, and this time organizers have a plan for the overwhelming demand to watch Lizzo, who was not booked to perform on a main stage.
"ACL Fest plans to simulcast the performance on the Honda stage screens in an effort to give fans the opportunity to spread out and enjoy the show," a spokesperson said.
KUTX program director Matt Reilly says when Lizzo was booked months ago to play ACL, she did not have a No. 1 hit on the Billboard Hot 100. Last month, she got that No. 1 hit, which coincided with her rise in fame.
"This happened with Lorde. It happened with Iggy Azalea. It happened with Foster the People," Reilly says. "In that time between the booking and the actual festival ... Lizzo has become a massive star."
