Texas Tribune CEO chats with President Obama at the Long Center on the first day of SXSW Interactive 2016.

President Obama’s motorcade proceeded from Austin-Bergstrom International Airport Friday afternoon directly to Torchy’s Tacos on South First before making its way to the Long Center.

“I want to acknowledge your mayor, Steve Adler, who bought tacos with me,” the President said.

Obama and Texas Tribune Executive Editor Evan Smith then launched into their Keynote Conversation as part of South by Southwest Interactive. It was a wide-ranging discussion centering around how technology can improve the world. President Obama cited as an example the extension of internet access to underserved areas as part of the USA Recovery Act.

“The stimulus that was very controversial at the time and continues to be criticized by the other party, despite the fact that unemployment is now below five percent and we avoided a great depression...Thanks, Obama,” the President joked, prompting big laughs from the audience.

First Lady Michelle Obama is scheduled to be in Austin next week to talk about the education initiative Let Girls Learn. You can watch a video of the President's chat below.
