Cole Beats Vela For The Democratic Nomination To Fill Dukes' House Seat In November
The Texas Tribune has called the Democratic primary runoff for House District 46 race for Sheryl Cole. The former Austin mayor pro-tem held a close lead throughout the night. But her opponent, immigration attorney Chito Vela, couldn’t overcome a 400-vote deficit from early voting totals.
The district includes parts of East Austin, Manor and Pflugerville.
"We have got to get in there and we have got to fight and we’ve got to put together new coalitions so that we can deliver actual results to this district and all of Travis County, Manor and Pflugerville," Cole said at an election night watch party at Hoover's Cooking.
She also mentioned she'd work to represent the Latino community of East Austin.
"And I want that population to know," she said, "that as we say in the black community, ‘We feel ya and I got ya."'
