Harsin Will Effectively Take Over the Longhorn Offense.

At a news conference set for noon today, Mack Brown will announce that former Boise State offensive coordinator Bryan Harsin and current UT running backs coach Major Applewhite will share offensive coordinator duties for the Horns next year.  Harsin will take over play-calling duties.

Harsin, 34, spent the past 10 years at Boise State, acting as offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach for the past 5.

The hire of Harsin was announced Friday and signals an influx of youth into the Longhorn football program after coaching staff veterans Greg Davis, Mac McWhorter and Mike Tolleson retired after the 2010 season.  New defensive coordinator,Manny Diaz, who took over after Will Muschamp left the post to take over the head football position at Florida, is only 37.

Mack and his staff have a couple of significant positions still outstanding: offensive line coach, the vacancy left by McWhorter; and assistant director for football operations, a hole left by George Wynn, who accepted the football operations director position at Florida.
