After months of serving as interim dean, the Moody College of Communication announced Monday that Jay Bernhardt would continue on as the head of the school.
Bernhardt has been at the helm of the college since September of 2015, after long-time Dean Roderick Hart stepped down last August. In a statement announcing the confirmation, UT President Greg Fenves said Bernhardt was chosen after a months-long search. His appointment begins March 1.
"Jay has an ambitious vision for the future of Moody and in the last six months has demonstrated himself to be a champion for excellence in the college," Fenves said. "He was the top choice for the deanship after a national search that yielded outstanding candidates."
Bernhardt came to the University of Texas in 2014. He's previously served as the University of Florida's director of the Center for Health Communication and the director for the National Center for Health Marketing at the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
Bernhardt's tenure starts officially on March 1.
