KUT 90.5 reporter and midday host (1-4 p.m. weekdays) Jimmy Maas grew up in Austin and studied journalism at The University of Texas at Austin, before moving to New York City where he worked for the Wall Street Journal Radio Network and Bloomberg Television by day, and as a comic by night.
Jimmy covers business, sports and the occasional off-beat story, and is known for infusing humor into his reporting, such as Never a Dry Run: Beer Mile Athletes are in It to Win It and If the Robot Apocalypse Happens, Austin's Growing Robotics Industry May be to Blame. Earlier this year, he won a first-place Texas Associated Press Broadcaster's Award for his story Austin Runner Eyes Olympic Gold.

What are you listening to these days?
With two daughters, a new home and a wife who works and goes to school full-time, life is busy. Recently, listening has been limited to Selena Gomez, Taylor Swift and Shawn Mendes songs from driving my kids around. I know way too much about Disney Channel shows, characters and plot lines. It would be sad, but I realize in a few years they won’t care to hang with me. So, I'm taking advantage while the opportunities are there.
Read anything interesting lately?
I’ve been reading “The Perfect Pass: American Genius and the Reinvention of Football,” by S.C. Gwynne. It’s the story of how most modern college football offenses in use today are basically evolved from one hatched by coach Hal Mumme at Copperas Cove High School (just north of Austin, near Killeen) in the mid-80s.
What are you loving about the ATX lately?
I spend most weekends coaching my daughter’s volleyball team and watching my other daughter play soccer. When there is a little time, the only real hobby I’ve perfected recently is to stare vacantly into space and mouth breathe.
