Details Released About Soldiers Killed in Wednesday's Fort Hood Shooting

Fort Hood officials are releasing more information about the three soldiers killed in a shooting at the post on Wednesday.

Sgt. 1st Class Daniel Michael Ferguson, 39, was from Mulberry, Florida. He had been in active-duty military service since 1993 and worked in transportation.

Ferguson served two tours in Kuwait and one each in Iraq and Afghanistan.

Staff Sgt. Carlos A. Lazaney-Rodriguez, 38, was from Puerto Rico. He entered active-duty service in 1995 and worked with the medical teams.

Lazaney-Rodriguez deployed to Kuwait once. He also served two tours in Iraq.

Sgt. Timothy Wayne Owens, 37, was from Effingham, Illinois. He had been in active-duty service since 2004 with transportation.

Owens served in Iraq and Kuwait.

On Friday, Fort Hood commander Lt. Gen. Mark Milley said it was likely that an “escalating argument”or “verbal altercation” between Spc. Ivan Lopez and other soldiers caused him to start shooting at the post. Lopez killed the three men listed above. He injured 16 people and then took his own life.

Milley said, so far, there is no indication Lopez targeted specific soldiers.

Lopez was being treated for depression and anxiety. He was also in the process of being diagnosed with post-traumatic stress disorder.
