Video: Occupy Austin Arrests

Texas State University undergraduate student Tony Gibson says he shot this video of the Saturday night arrests at the Occupy Austin protest at City Hall. Demonstrators refused to move to allow crews to pressure wash the ground.

Their decision to stay put stemmed from arrests earlier in the night over a new city rule requiring food tables be removed from 10 p.m. to 6 a.m.

Austin police say they made 37 arrests Saturday night. That number grew to 45 by Sunday evening.

Gibson, who identifies with the protestors, said he thought the arrests were “ridiculous.”

“I felt it was absurd,” he told KUT News. “It didn’t need to happen.”

Earlier today, protestors met with city officials and the tone between them was said to be positive and cooperative.  An Occupy Austin spokesman said the issues raised by the city will be taken up at 7 p.m. during their general assembly.
