Governor Perry to Tour Tornado Damaged Areas

Governor Rick Perry is scheduled to take an aerial tour of the Dallas-Fort Worth area damaged by tornadoes today. Perry plans to tour Lancaster, one of the hardest hit areas by the storms, according to the Texas Tribune.

The National Weather Service estimates up to a dozen tornadoes touched down in North Texas on Tuesday—one of those tornadoes was rated an E-F-3 with winds of up to 165 miles-per-hour.

Several American Airlines flights departing to Dallas from Austin have been canceled. You can view Austin Bergstrom International Airport departures online

Hasan's Attorneys Seek a Second Delay

KUT News' Andy Uhler reports attorneys for the Army psychiatrist charged with killing 13 people at Fort Hood in 2009 are asking for his trial to be postponed a second time.

Major Nidal Hasan’s attorneys already asked for and received one such delay, saying they were still sorting through evidence to mount a defense. The trial was pushed from its originally set date in March to June. Now attorneys are requesting that the court delay again until October, but haven’t said why.

Hasan, accused of opening fire in a soldier-readiness center at Fort Hood on Nov. 5, 2009, is charged with 13 counts of premeditated murder and 32 counts of attempted premeditated murder. He faces the death penalty if convicted.

Man Accused of Assaulting Austin Teen Arrested

A man accused of sexually assaulting and stabbing a 17-year old girl in Dripping Springs in March has been arrested.

Griffin was arrested in Pensacola, Florida, officials say. He remains in custody there, waiting to be extradited to Hays County. The Statesmansays:

The sheriff's office has issued warrants for attempted capital murder, aggravated sexual assault and aggravated kidnapping, and formal proceedings such as charges will ensue once Griffins is extradited to Hays County.

Willie Griffin, 46, lured a young woman into his car in Austin and sexually assaulted her. He then stabbed her and left her for dead. Police in Hays County responded to an emergency call from a passing motorist who saw the girl on the side of the road.

KUT reported on the story during the initial search for the suspect.
