Initial Findings Announced for Lady Bird Lake
Tonight, a team of riverfront planners, landscape architects and green builders will share their vision for the future of Lady Bird Lake’s south shore.
The team has spent the last few days studying what they call “South Shore Central”—which is the area around Congress and First Street. The city says the area is lacking in infrastructure.
Austin won a grant for sustainable development that covers the consulting fees. The team toured the shoreline by land and by boat and listened to recommendations from Austinites.
The public is invited to participate as the team presents its initial recommendations at the Mexican American Cultural Center at 5:30 this evening.
Austin’s Formula One Tickets On Sale Sunday
Tickets for Austin’s Formula One Grand Prix will go on sale Sunday.
A three-day general admission pass is priced at $159. Three-day passes for grandstand seats go up to almost $500.
Premium seating is only available if you buy a personal seat license. Securing those seats costs thousands of dollars on top of the price of season tickets.
Just yesterday, Travis County Commissioners approved a permit to allow up to 250,000 attendees in the track area over the three-day period.
Austin’s Grand Prix is November 16 to 18.
Texans Split On View of Planned Parenthood
Texans have sharply differing opinions about Planned Parenthood. A recent poll by the University of Texas and The Texas Tribune shows 27 percent of those polled had a "very favorable" view of Planned Parenthood. The same percentage of respondents had a "very unfavorable" view of the organization.
Favorable views of Planned Parenthood showed up most clearly among Democrats, liberals, and African-Americans. Women were somewhat more likely than men to approve of the organization. Hispanic views were more mixed, with 29 percent finding the provider “very favorable” and 21 percent finding it “very unfavorable.”
According to the Tribune, respondents' views toward Planned Parenthood correlated with their beliefs about its involvement in abortion services:
When respondents thought a higher percentage of Planned Parenthood services were dedicated to abortion services, the organization's unfavorability ratings tended to increase.
Planned Parenthood has been at the crux of a debate over women’s healthcare in Texas. After being excluded from the Women’s Healthcare Program, Planned Parenthood filed a lawsuit in April to protest the state’s decision.
