The Austin Independent School District is offering students and staff free COVID-19 tests to prevent the spread of the virus when classes resume in person next week.

After consulting with Austin Public Health, Superintendent Stephanie Elizalde announced Wednesday that the district would go remote-only for a week following the Thanksgiving break.

Staff and students who have spent time in school buildings can get tested at one of six locations: Burger Stadium, Dobie Middle School, Mendez Middle School, Navarro Early College High School, Northeast Early College High School and Travis Early College High School.

Here's the schedule for the testing sites:

  • Wednesday, Dec. 2, 9:30 a.m. - 6 p.m.
  • Thursday, Dec. 3, 8 a.m. - 4:30 p.m.
  • Friday, Dec. 4, 8 a.m. - 4:30 p.m.

Students and staff must register and sign a consent form on AISD's website in advance.
