George P. Bush - son of former Florida Governor Jeb Bush and the nephew of former president George W. Bush - announced today he's running for Texas Land Commissioner.
There's been intense speculation about which office Bush would pursue since he filed paperwork with the Texas Ethics Commission late last year without specifying which office he planned to run for.
The Land Commissioner oversees state land and mineral resources, and the office is often a stepping stone to higher elected office.
Bush lives in Fort Worth and has been active in politics for the past several years. His mother is from Mexico and he is considered a rising star among conservative Hispanics in Texas.
In a Twitter message this afternoon, said he met today with current Land Commissioner Jerry Patterson, who has said he will run for Lieutenant Governor in 2014.
Great visit with @Patterson4TX. Updated filing. Running for #TXLandComm. Join me at http://t.co/4uSL4e1fRk #TX2014
