Early Voting Turnout High
Early voting continues today and turnout so far has doubled since 2006, according to the Texas Tribune's Elise Hu. The Houston Chronicle, however, reports that allegations continue to surface of voter intimidation in Harris County. Austin Bank Robberies at Five Year High
The Statesman leads its front page with a story we told you about yesterday, that fired Austin Police Department officer Leonardo Quintana is getting his job back. But the Statesman has an exclusive this morning that Austin's 2010 bank robberies are at a five year high, according to FBI statistics.
Hasan Hearing Adjourns
The hearing for the accused Fort Hood shooter Major Nidal Hasan has been adjourned until November 15th. The one year anniversary of the mass shooting is November 5th. The prosecution wrapped up witness testimony yesterday. Testimony presented Thursday included a gun store employee's claim that a man entered Guns Galore in Killeen in July 2009 and asked for "the most high-tech handgun we had." Next month it will be the defense lawyers' turn to present evidence and witness testimony. Hasan’s charged with killing 13 people and wounding 32 others.
Wooten Executed
The State of Texas executed Larry Wooten last night. He was put to death for killing a couple in their 80s in the northeast Texas town, Paris more than 14 years ago. The victims were Grady Alexander and his wife Bessie. Prosecutors said Wooten stole 500 dollars from the couple to buy cocaine. He was the 17th inmate executed this year in Texas.
Rangers Play Tonight
History could be made tonight when the Texas Rangers take on the New York Yankees in Arlington. Rangers lead their series 3-2 and a victory would mark the first time they win the American League Pennant and advance to the World Series. Fans are hoping the weather cooperates. There's a 20 percent chance of rain tonight at Rangers Ballpark.
