Tonight’s your chance to help shape the direction of Barton Springs Pool.
Possible changes to areas around the beloved swimming hole will be heard at a joint committee meeting of the Parks and Recreation Board and Environmental Board this evening. And the public is invited to attend the meeting and sound off on the proposals.
The meeting is focused on the proposed Barton Springs Pool Master Plan. Aspects of the plan include options for a new south entry gate, a new ticket booth at south gate, a new perimeter fence, and more.
Volunteer organization Friends of Barton Springs Pool is encouraging Austinites to attend in support of the master plan. It points to site improvements like installing an ornamental perimeter fence instead of a chain link and barbwire enclosure around the pool, and an updated ticket booth at the south gate as benefits to the park.
The Save Our Springs Alliance is also encouraging the public to attend the meeting, but questions some aspects of the plan. On its website, SOS counters that the “south area of Barton Springs should stay natural and undeveloped.”
Whether you support or oppose the Barton Springs Pool Master Plan you’re encouraged to attend. The meeting is occurring at the Austin Nature and Science Center tonight at 6:15 p.m.
