Video game mogul and noted space tourist Richard Garriott is selling his Hill Country home in northwest Austin.

The $4.1 million "manor" is described as “captivating and magical” in this RE/MAX listing.

Situated high on a level 3.99 ac hilltop overlooking downtown & a 3,000 ac preserve, this home offers amazing architectural details & intrigue plus an "off the grid" energy realm. Features behind the iron gate include a 360 degree observatory w/ telescope atop the approx 4790 sq ft home, pool, grotto, waterfall, +detached studio, separate guest quarters, a/c'd barn, lagoon, lighted track.

Garriott's home has its own Wikipedia entry, which says the house was featured on "Lifestyles of the Rich and Famous" and "MTV Cribs".

Garriott is one of a handful of people wealthy enough to participate in the space tourism industry. In October 2008, he traveled to the International Space Station. KUT interviewed him about it a few months later.

Nathan Bernier is the transportation reporter at KUT. He covers the big projects that are reshaping how we get around Austin, like the I-35 overhaul, the airport's rapid growth and the multibillion-dollar transit expansion Project Connect. He also focuses on the daily changes that affect how we walk, bike and drive around the city. Got a tip? Email him at nbernier@kut.org. Follow him on X @KUTnathan.
