The daylong ceremony began at 11 a.m. on the South Capitol steps. Abbott, taking over for Rick Perry, became the 48th Governor of Texas.
The day's festivities include a prayer service, a swearing-in ceremony, barbecue, a parade, and later, a black tie ball.
The parade takes place from 2 to 4 p.m. Congress Ave. and cross streets are closed for much of Tuesday from 11th St. to Riverside Dr. Cap Metro announced also that its express buses are replaced with local buses, so riders should "check the headsigns" for their buses.
