Formula 1 is only three weeks away. The City of Austin is making some big preparations as race weekend approaches.

Satellite Monitors Texas’s Water Supply

A satellite called GRACE, the Gravity Recovery and Climate Experiment, is monitoring the water situation in Texas. And there’s a couple of disturbing trends in the data: a Southeastern drought trend and a lot of a lot of groundwater depletion in the Panhandle.

The new, high-speed section of State Highway 130 opened last Wednesday. That first night, wildlife caused a handful of accidents.

Texas Wants More Medicaid Control

The Texas Legislature is expected to focus on the state’s Medicaid in the 2013 legislative session starts. Lawmakers underfunded the program by a few billion dollars in 2011. What the state does may come down to the Affordable Care Act – and who ends up being President.

The cancelations were just a few of the 5,000 flights that have been put on hold due to the dangerous conditions along the East Coast.

New Charges in Austin Hit-And-Run Case (Statesman)

Hit-and-run suspect, Gabrielle Nestande, pleaded not guilty to two new charges: intoxication manslaughter and manslaughter, from the 2011 incident. Additionally, a new trial date was set for Feb. 11, 2013. Nestande had previously been charged with failure to stop and render aid, a third-degree felony, in the death of 30-year-old Courtney Paige Griffin last year.

Austin Gas Price Fall Again (KEYE-TV)

There's been another drop in Austin gas prices. Average retail gasoline prices fell seven cents per gallon in the past week.  The average is now $3.37
