Update: The city has partnered with the University of Texas to allow Centennial Parkto be a shuttle pick-up and drop off location. As a result, UT says there may be heavy traffic in the area bound by the perimeter of Trinity Street, MLK Boulevard, I-35 and East 15th Street.
"R" Permit holders for the Trinity Garage will need to relocate for the weekend. "F" and "S" permit holders are not required to relocate, but the University has suggested it. "F" and "S" permit holders may park free of charge at any of university garage, with the exception of the Conference Center Garage (CCG) and Manor Garage (MAG). Update (Nov. 15, 5:53 a.m.): The City of Austin is shutting down more streets in preparation for the Austin Fan Fest.
Starting today, the closures on Third and Fourth Streets will be extended from Lavaca Street to Brazos Street.
Colorado Street will be shut down between Second Street and Fifth Street.
Officials at Austin-Bergstrom International Airport expect today will be the busiest arrival day at the airport.Original Post (Nov. 14, 9:34 a.m.): And so it begins.
The first street closures related to this weekend’s Formula 1 festivities began this morning: Fourth and Third Streets are both closed, from Congress Avenue to Colorado Street, as crew prep stages in the Warehouse District for the Austin Fan Fest. The streets will reopen Nov. 20 at midnight.
Several more closures are on tap Thursday and Friday, including closures on Congress Avenue. Other signs of F1 activity include the Austin City Council’s recent OK of helicopter permits and an EPA aerial survey of downtown and the Circuit of the Americas track, with an eye toward assessing terrorism threats.
The Formula 1 Grand Prix and Austin Fan Fest run from Nov. 16-18.
