Prosecutor: No Charges for Longhorns McCoy, Hicks (Update)

UT Football, KUT News

Update: Case McCoy and Jordan Hicks will not face charges stemming from an alleged sexual assault in San Antonio on the eve of the Alamo Bowl.

The San Antonio Express-News reports:

[Bexar County] Assistant District Attorney Cliff Herberg said his office reviewed details of the investigation into Jordan Hicks and Case McCoy, but that no case was formally filed. Police informed the district attorney's office that the investigation is closed, Herberg said.

Original post (Jan. 14, 8:14 a.m.): University of Texas at Austin football players Case McCoy and Jordan Hicks have been reinstated to the team after they were suspended for violating team rules.

The backup quarterback and linebacker were suspended last month for breaking team rules.  The San Antonio Police Department is investigating an alleged sexual assault involving the players.

A woman reported the allegations on Dec. 28, a day before the Longhorns would take on the Oregon State Beavers in the Alamo Bowl. The assault is said to have occurred at a hotel shortly after 2 a.m.Hicks and his family have vehemently denied the allegations and maintain that “all conduct that occurred the evening of the incident was consensual by everyone involved." A statement adds that “a sexual assault occurred by anyone at anytime is completely false.”

UT Head Football Coach Mack Brown announced his decision to reinstate the players Sunday evening. But he made clear the incident would not be quickly forgotten.

“Obviously when you break team rules there's a certain amount of trust that has been broken, and that will be addressed with further discipline. That discipline will be handled within the team," Brown said in a statement.

Despite the distraction of the suspensions, the Longhorns went on to beat Oregon State in the Alamo Bowl, 31-24, with a fourth-quarter come from behind victory.

Currently, no charges have been files against either players. SAPD is still reviewing the case.
