Austin is keeping busy this weekend — which means there are a few road closures event and non-event goers alike should look out for.
The Austin Urban Music Festival is coming back to Auditorium Shores this weekend. This year, the two-day festival is featuring musical guests such as Brandy and Anthony Hamilton. Tickets are still available online.
Some roads around the park will be closed starting at 1:30 p.m. Friday. The closures are scheduled to go all-day Saturday. Bouldin Avenue and Dawson Road will be closed between Barton Springs Road and W. Gibson Street. South 3rd Street will also be shut down.
Meanwhile, Austin Police will be closely monitoring traffic around the University of Texas at Austin Campus and downtown over the next couple of days. It’s expected to be heavier as thousands of people are in town for the Annual Clyde Littlefield Texas Relays.
Austin Police are shutting down East Sixth Street between I-35 and Brazos this evening. Depending on traffic, police may also shut down North-South roadways from Sabine Street to San Jacinto Boulevard between Fifth and Seventh Streets.
Police may also close some I-35 exit ramps to downtown. APD recommends travelers use alternative routs like Mopac, Congress Avenue or Lamar Boulevard to get into downtown.
And early in the morning on Saturday is the St. James Missionary Baptist Church's 5k race. Residential Streets between MLK Boulevard and East 12th Street, from Airport Boulevard to Springdale Road, will face partial road closures beginning at 7 a.m. to 11 a.m.
