A wildfire burning about 11 miles from the major buildings at Fort Hood grew by 700 acres overnight to span 3,700 acres. No evacuations are underway, and fire crews are battling the blaze from the ground and in the air.
Bulldozers are trying to cut a fire break around the perimeter of what’s being called the Jack Mountain blaze. It is currently 10 percent contained.
“With calmer winds forecasted today, Fort Hood officials think we should be able to get this fire under control today,” III Corps spokesman Tyler Broadway told KUT news.
Broadway says with no evacuations, there’s not a lot of impact on the daily lives of Fort Hood residents. But he says officials are urging people with asthma or other respiratory illnesses to limit their time spent outside.
West Range Road is closed from Elijah Road North to Manning Mountain Road.
